Cristiano Ronaldo in Marbella – did you know?

You have probably heard of Cristiano Ronaldo. He is one of the best (if not the best) football player on earth right now. And likewise one of the most famous people on that same planet. Do you think if he visited your premise, other people would be more likely to give you a try – knowing you are ‘good enough’ for such a celebrity, then your venue should be at least OK?

I live and work in Marbella, and …

CR7 visited the city a few weeks ago.

He came over with his partner, Georgina Rodríguez, after a game in Valencia and celebrated her birthday in our lovely beach city. Apropos of nothing, they visited two restaurants. I haven’t heard from either of them. Neither used his brand power to at least mention to their own guests he was there.

Disclaimer: For all the nay-sayers. I don’t mean to stalk him during his meal and annoy him and invade his privacy and bombard him with photo requests and depress his dining experience with you. No, you would be stupid to do that.

I mean: Ask him casually when paying the bill if he would mind a souvenir photo? It’d take literally 5 seconds. And then a couple days later you could use it on Social Media – and just casually mention that he enjoyed a lovely meal at your venue. Or print out the photo and show off national and local celebrities on a casual photo wall. Did I mention casually too often? YES! Because don’t make a big deal out of it, that looks needy, but don’t tell it to anyone, at all? That’s irresponsible towards your business. So tell people when celebrities visit you, it boosts your credibility immensely.

Two questions for you:

What does this have to do with you?

You are probably a local place, people like that don’t just walk in… Indeed, they don’t. But the captain of the local football team, or the owner of a prestigious enterprise, or an important local figure, or or or…  There are many, who are role models in a community. It doesn’t have to be a CR – just someone people respect.

Would your staff have done something?

If such a situation would have occurred at your place – would your employees have recognized the opportunity to communicate it with other clients?

The solution?

Train your staff. And by train, I mean explain to them what to do when something like this happens.
